We will start our tour in 7th Street Melville, one of Johannesburg’s most famous entertainment locations. Here you will meet your guide/s who will fill you in on the tours activities and give you a brief history of Soweto and its history. We then will take a scenic drive through the neighbourhoods of Auckland Park, Brixton and Riverlea as we head to our first location which is FNB Stadium (Soccer City). This is the largest stadium in South Africa built especially for the 2010 Soccer World Cup.
Next we will drive past the largest hospital precinct in Africa, the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital. Here you will also experience one of the largest public transport hubs and how locals in Soweto access Johannesburg and other parts of the country and beyond.
After this we will view the Iconic Soweto Towers that decorate Soweto’s Skyline, also known as the Orlando Towers, this location played a central role in the building of Soweto.
After this we will drive to the Hector Pieterson precinct, this site and its museum commemorate the students who were shot and killed in June 1976 and is located two blocks from where Hector Pieterson was shot and killed on the same day.
Next we will visit the world famous Vilakazi Street where the Mandela house is located. Vilakazi Street is a one of a kind experience that combines both heritage and a cosmopolitan entertainment. It was also home to another Nobel Peace winner Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
Our next location will be a drive past The Soweto theatre and Jabulani Mall Precinct. This theatre is an architectural marvel and has hosted some South Africa’s best theatrical and musical productions.
Our final stop will be The Oppenheimer Tower and Credo Mutwa Cultural. This site and its history will take you breath away. Climb to the top of the Oppenheimer tower and experience the most amazing view of Soweto and learn what each of its steps represents. Next enter the Credo Mutwa cultural garden museum and get deeply immersed in Traditional African Culture and folklore. Prepare yourself as this an experience quite like any other.
